Connect and Share Your Research Ideas with DoD Program Officers
Engage in one-on-one speed networking with DoD Program Officers (POs) to explore potential research collaborations. This fast-paced session offers invited researchers the chance to discuss their ideas directly with POs, helping shape future solicitations. Each networking slot lasts 15 minutes, so come prepared to present your ideas concisely.
Research One-Pager Submission
To ensure you're matched with the most relevant program officer, you must submit a research one-pager in advance. If you're interested in participating, please use our registration page and select ". It will then prompt you to upload your one-pager. If you have any questions or concerns about this, please contact Alena Jones at ajones@research.msstate.edu. All submissions much be uploaded by March 7, 2025.
Research One-Pager Guidelines
Your research one-pager should be one page and include three to four well-defined research ideas. Each idea should be described in a short paragraph that highlights a key scientific question you aim to explore. You may include graphics, as long as the total document remains within one to two pages.
Key Questions to Consider:
- Is this basic research?
- What is the central scientific question?
- Why is this a challenging question?
- Why you? Why now? (What unique expertise, approach, or perspective do you bring?)
- Why does this matter to the broader scientific community?
- Where are the risks?
- What resources or collaborations will it take?
Assume POs are knowledgeable in their fields and aware of the needs of their service branches. Keep background details brief—follow-up discussions can provide additional context as needed.
Why Submit a Research One-Pager?
It serves two key purposes for the PO:
- Understanding Your Interests – It provides a snapshot of your research scope and potential alignment with DoD priorities.
- Facilitating Scientific Matchmaking – Even if a particular idea doesn’t align immediately, POs can share it with others in the DoD science and technology community. Program Officers are always looking to connect promising ideas with the right people—if they don’t know what you're working on, they can’t help promote your research.
Don’t let your ideas go unnoticed—submit and take advantage of this opportunity to network and explore new research pathways with DoD Program Officers!
