As part of the university’s 2025 Research Celebration, the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership is excited to host guest speaker Dr. Mary Brownell from the University of Florida. Please make plans to join us as she presents, “Becoming a Successful Grant Writer,” April 11, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. in Fowlkes Auditorium.
In this session, Dr. Brownell addresses the fundamentals of writing grant proposals, including discussing different funding opportunities, strategies for developing a successful proposal, organizing the process and collaborating for success.
About the Speaker
Mary Brownell, Ph.D., is a Distinguished Professor of Special Education at the University of Florida and former Director of the Collaboration for Effective Educator Development, Accountability and Reform, an OSEP funded project designed to improve the preparation of teachers and leaders working with students with disabilities. Dr. Brownell is recognized nationally for her research on teacher education, teacher assessment, and professional development, particularly in the area of literacy. To support her efforts, she has received more than $64 million of federal funds. She has been published widely and won multiple awards for her work, including the TED Pearson Award for Excellence in Teacher Education, the Division for Research Hallahan and Kauffman Distinguished Researcher Award, the Division for Learning Disabilities Jeannette Fleischner Career Leadership Award, the American Association for Colleges of Teacher Education David Imig Teacher Achievement Award for lifetime achievement in teacher education, and the University of Kansas School of Education Outstanding Alumni Award.
